A Little About Myself...

The AU Admissions Blog now has a new writer who  will now be providing his view on life here at AU.  Introducing Nate Salsgiver.

I am currently a senior at Anderson University and am pursuing a Marketing degree with a concentration in Communications.  I have been involved on campus in a wide array of activities, clubs, organizations, groups, etc.  I will touch base on the most recent involvement, which is what I am currently involved in.

First off, I am the Vice President for Dativus Men’s Service and Social Club.  I have been a part of Dativus for 3 years now and have seen tremendous growth and change in not only the club itself, but the people that make the club existent.  I had the unique opportunity to be in charge of RUSH, which is a week long process of initiation.  This responsibility taught me many important aspects of leadership and time management.  Being an officer has called me to a higher standard and has helped me overcome certain struggles I previously had.  The beauty of this brotherhood is the accountability and friendships that breed from a common bond that we all share.  That common bond happens during RUSH.  It’s not something you can explain; it’s something that has to be experienced.  I am also a Camarada Kid.  As a kid, I have the opportunity to attend each club, service project, and social event that Camarada offers.  I get to serve as a mentor, friend, general life facilitator, and offer a manly perspective on any aspect of life.  I take great pride in being available for the members and helping with whatever I can.

Secondly, I am a part of the University Leadership Council (ULC).  Most students are unaware of the ULC and what exactly goes on within the group.  We as members meet biweekly and discuss ways to help encourage student leaders and faculty on campus.  We create and organize activities throughout the year for them to experience a time away from their position, a time focused primarily on them, and a time for us as the ULC to recognize their hard work and efforts for the betterment of Anderson University.

Thirdly, I am involved in 10:07, which is a campus wide worship time for everyone and anyone who wishes to be involved.  It is held every Tuesday at 10:07, usually in Fair Commons Lobby, sometimes located in Park Place Church of God.  I have been attending 10:07 since my freshmen year, which is where I met many of my best friends that I currently have.  I take great joy in the time that is offered to praise and worship God for all that He does and all that He is.  The opportunity for the Anderson student body to come together collectively and worship our Almighty God is a pure joy and blessing.

It’s very hard to come to grips with reality of being a senior, not knowing exactly what is next.  I have learned more than I could have asked for so far during my tenure at Anderson University.  I have grown more than I could have ever imagined possible.  Looking at my life before I came to Anderson compared to my life now, is unreal.  I used to be apathetic about life, now I’m intentional and responsive.  There will always be students that dislike Anderson and find things to complain about, but Anderson is truly an avenue for personal and spiritual growth that should be appreciated and taken advantage of.  I feel that I will leave here without regrets, which is exactly what I wanted.  If anything, I owe Anderson University and the faculty/staff a genuine thank you for all they have done to make my experience unforgettable.
